If you remember our last lesson, I mentioned that in the next lesson we would look at how one can become a journalist. I don’t mean a journalist per se but a journalist who likes keeping a running account of his personal life online. Today I’d like to draw your attention to the blogosphere community.
The word blog was coined from the words web log. In 1994, when a student, Justin Hall, decided to keep a personal record of his every day goings-on he had no idea of what a profound effect a blog would have on his followers. Since then the online diary has evolved into a multifunctional interactive social media with its own community that is growing by the minute. The popularity of blogs is overwhelming. Anyone can start their own blog, regardless if they are a professional writer, celebrity, politician or an English teacher. The variety of blogs is vast. They differ not only in content but also in the way they are delivered.
Each year the online community votes for eight days, choosing the best blogs in 45 categories. This year the award ceremony was held in Austin, Texas. Bloggie winners were presented with certificates and prizes. The best European weblog award went to Chocolate & Zucchini. If you’re into cooking I do recommend you visit this blog.
